The tournament raises funds for deserving hockey players in Kansas City, the Midwest and throughout the country. The funds are used for fees, dues or expenses to assist players and families. Over the past 4 years, $57,000 has been distributed to Midwest Amateur Hockey Association, and the Tyler Frederes Memorial Fund will be presenting the league with another $20,000 before the start of this year's tournament. The organization is expanding its reach to include players outside of the Midwest for the first time, using the 2019 tournament funds. Distribution of these funds will begin in the fall of 2020.
In 2017, we created the Christopher Mentzel Scholarship. Chris passed away unexpectedly on February 7, 2017. An avid golfer with a true passion for hockey, family and friends donated to our organization in memory of Chris, and a new scholarship was created. A $1000 Chris Mentzel Scholarship will be awarded yearly to a deserving Kansas City player.
The Tyler Frederes Memorial Fund was established in 2013 as a 501©3 not-for-profit whose mission is to develop and enhance the lives of young deserving hockey players by providing resources that educate and build character, encourage teamwork and inspire value-based life lessons through the game of hockey.
